The Rhonegletscher is one of the oldest and mightiest of the glaciers in the alps. It stretches over 6 square miles as of today. It is a valuable resource for water and regional climate stabilisation. But thanks to climate change it is slowly vanishing.

Since 1871 it has lost almost half of its size. Till the year 2100 experts expect this mighty glacier to be almost gone.

In a desperate attempt to stop the melting, local entrepreneurs apply tarps to keep the sun form heating up the ice. Mainly driven by tourist business instincts, they are the only few who actively trying to stem the demise of the ice that as at times up to 350 meters thick.
